And now for something completely different!!
As patients of mine approach the month of fasting in Ramadan, I often get asked about foods that will help satiety over the day and ensure fasting is as comfortable as possible. These energy meal recipes can be used for maintaining satiety and energy outside of fasting as well as for those fasting in Ramadan or any time throughout the year.
Here are some delicious easy to make recipes!

Coconut Fat Bombs – makes about 10
Ingredients
130g shredded unsweetened coconut – or desiccated coconut
115g coconut oil, melted
1 Tablespoon raw honey
1/4 teaspoon orange extract (or vanilla bean to taste)
50g raw dark chocolate chips
Method
In a blender, add shredded / desiccated coconut, coconut oil, raw honey and extract.
Blend until mixture is fine and crumbled.
Place in freezer for 5 minutes to harden
Line a small baking sheet on a tray
Form into small balls using your hands. Set onto baking sheet.
Place in freezer for 5 minutes to set.
Using a double bowl method, melt chocolate until smooth.
Use a butterknife to drizzle coconut bombs with chocolate.
Place in fridge to set 10 minutes.
Store in refrigerator.
Nutty Fat Bombs – makes about 10
Ingredients
75g almond nut butter (or any preferred seed butter)
25g coconut oil, melted
40g desiccated/shredded coconut unsweetened
1 Tablespoon (baking) cocoa unsweetened
25g chia seeds (pre-toasted on a frying pan at high temperature for 10 minutes)
15g flaxseeds
2 Tablespoon maple syrup (or sweetener of choice eg honey)
10g cacao nibs
Method
Blend all the ingredients together in a mixing bowl.
Place in freezer for 10 minutes to harden mixture.
Remove from freezer and roll into balls and place on a baking tray.
Freeze again for 10 minutes then remove and place in fridge to keep.
Coconut Mango Lassi
Ingredients
¼ teaspoon cardamom powder
2 mangos (1.5 cups) – 250g
400ml coconut milk
65g (1/4 cup) unsweetened yoghurt
2 tablespoon honey
1 lime juiced and chilled
2 handfuls ice
Lime wedges (for garnish)
Method
Add all ingredients to high speed blender until smooth and creamy
Pour into glasses and garnish with lime and add dash of cardamom if required
